Jamie Orfald-Clarke

Whitewater & Swiftwater Rescue Instructor, Ice Rescue Instructor, Whitewater Paddling Instructor, Expedition Guide

Jamie grew up next to the Ottawa River in unceded Algonquin territory, and his love affair with whitewater was set in motion with a childhood family river trip, followed by many years of adventures at Camp Wanapitei. Over the past 15 years, Jamie has worked in a range of roles from trip guide to rescue instructor on rivers everywhere from Ontario to the Yukon and Northwest Territories. In addition to his many years on the water, Jamie also holds a teaching degree with a specialization in Outdoor/Experiential Education and has a keen interest in bringing together outdoor adventuring, environmental justice, and encouraging kids and adults alike to develop a connection and sense wonder with the natural places and spaces in their own communities.

When he’s off the river, Jamie can be found with his three young children traipsing through the forest and nerding out over wild mushrooms, woodworking, and baking a mighty fine sourdough bread.

Jamie’s certifications include:

  • Whitewater, Swiftwater, and Ice Rescue Instructor
  • Paddle Canada Moving Water Canoe Instructor
  • Assistant Wilderness Medicine Instructor with Wilderness Medical Associates International
